Damn, I've been slacking!

Thu Jun 4, 2009, 1:10 PM
A year since my last post/deviation, but doesn't feel like it has been that long, where does the time go?
I'm still a bit hooked on World of Warcraft which has consumed countless hours, but my wife and I also had our 4th child together a few months ago too so even more hours consumed. I'd murder for some sleep now.
I have, on the odd occasion, been fiddling away starting up new scenes but never gotten any even close to finished, but thats (possibly) going to change since I've just upgraded to Vue7 which I am loving even more than Vue6, the new terrain capabilities and water editing features have been keeping me occupied and I've still barely scratched the surface.
Well, keeping this brief for now and going to upload a small render I just did so see you soon folks.

The winner is.... + New Vue Club

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 2, 2007, 11:22 AM

New Vue club on dA...

=nukeation has opened a new Vue specific club here on dA =1vue , since as he put it, there are very few Vue resources here on deviantART, but tons of Terragen clubs.
Hop on over and join the club, and spread the word too. There are already a couple of free resources and a tutorial available.

So, what are you waiting for?? Click on the shiny button...

Let the voting begin...

Entry Closed

With one final entry creeping in before last orders its time to call a close to the contest and let the voting begin. It has been a little longer than anticipated mainly due to a couple of bigger contests in the community but the end is here, the entries so far have been excellent (as with the first contest) and now some more winners loom on the horizon.

Who will they be??

That's for you to decide!!

Voting will continue for a week until midnight GMT on the 30th of November, shortly after which the winners will be announced and prizes purchased.

Please cast your gaze over the entries and then familiarise yourself with the brief rules underneath before voting.

The entries....

by ~rdx86

here are a few rules for voting.

1) Only one vote per deviant

2) Votes from accounts opened less than two weeks from todays date will not be counted

3) The entrants are allowed to vote (even for themselves)

4) Votes should be cast in a comment in this journal entry by stating.... "Vote : (the name of the deviant and the name of the piece)"

5) Final render quality is not an issue here and votes should be cast towards the artwork that most closely reflects the theme of the contest which was....

"Extremes. The subject should be either very very large, or very very tiny, and the image must communicate that."

(A suggestion to increase your possible votes would be to stick a link and mention to this in your journal)

A big thanks to all the entrants, and good luck with the vote. Please stay tuned for the results....

Landscaping Comp #2...10 days left!!

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 12, 2007, 11:12 PM

End In Sight

With 10 days left there is still time for a few entries. Its been a little slower than last but the entries so far have been good.
Start rallying together your voters for the 23rd, but please note that I'll check the accounts of each voter to make sure no brand new accounts suddenly appear to bulk up votes (not that I'm suggesting anyone would ever cheat). Those kind of votes will be discounted.

Anyways, its been enjoyable so far and hopefully there'll be a few more yet.

Happy rendering

After the great response to the last competition with loads of excellent entries and a fantastic winner, its time to get started again.

The winner of the last competition, *curious3d has been asked to provide the theme for this one and has come up with a great suggestion for you to interpret.

The theme is to be...

"Extremes. The subject should be either very very large, or very very tiny, and the image must communicate that."

I can see many interesting interpretations of this being posted.

As with my first competition, the main prize will be a 1 YEAR dA subscription and 2 runners up receiving 6 months each. This time though I will be putting the choice of winner up for voting instead of just choosing the winner myself, which of course is a much fairer system.

here are a few rules for the contest....

1) This is a landscaping contest so must have a landscape present, of course models/objects and so on are allowed

2) Post work IS allowed, almost anything goes. Just don't go too filter crazy that the image can't be seen clearly or that it becomes something other than a 3D landscape.

3) You can enter 3 images, all of which can be up for the vote.

4) Images from ANY 3D software with landscaping abilities are acceptable

5) Images should be a minimum size of 800 x 600

6) By submitting your entry you agree to me displaying a thumb of the entry in this journal.

7) To enter just create your image and submit it to your own gallery and state in the description that its for this compo, then send me a note with a link to the deviation and I'll come and check it out as soon as I can.

8) Closing date for entries is FRIDAY 23rd NOVEMBER at which point voting will begin for a week, ending on Friday 30th November when the winner and runners up will be announced

9) The contest is open to anyone on deviantART whether you're a 3D artist or not. (This could be a great opportunity to start)

10) I retain the right to add or amend the rules at any time, so before you post an entry please check the rules again.

Interpret the theme as you see fit, so go forth and multi-render!!

(and please help spread the word by clicking HERE and favouriting the article so others can find out about this)

OK, I know its a few hours earlier than posted but the competition is now closed. A massive thanks to everyone who entered, the response has been better than expected.

There have been a lot of excellent entries with a lot of hard work put into them but it has to come down to three, and the decision is tough.

And the winner is...

*Curious3D takes the win on this one with her 'Jungle Ruins' image

The use of this terrain is amazing, it is very reminiscent of a spot outside the town I grew up in with an old ruined castle, Glengarnock Castle (and the place I lost my virginity) which you can view >here<
OK Kilbirnie is a far cry from the jungle (depends on your perspective) but the memories invoked are what makes this stand out.

A year's dA sub is now hers

Runners up...

The two runners up, each netting themselves a 6 months dA sub are...

~dandelO with his 'Doctor's Highland Retreat' image.

and

=render422 with his 'Lost World' image

Excellent work guys.

The prizes will be going out to you all just as soon as this has been posted, thanks for all your hard work.

Next...

I will be running another competition very very soon, with the same prizes but on this occasion I'm going to let the winner of this competition decide on the theme for the next one, plus I'll put the decider to a vote next time instead of my own choice since I hadn't really expected the the response from this one...its fairer that way

Stay tuned for the details.
